Witnesses Say Shark Was Trying to Catch Baitfish

LEMON SHARK, Fla. (WTXL) — A lemon shark leaped out of the water and landed in a boat, injuring two people on board.

The incident occurred around 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 27, in the Gulf of Mexico near Lemon Shark, Fla.

According to witnesses, the shark was trying to catch baitfish when it jumped out of the water and landed in the boat. The shark struck one of the passengers in the head and another in the leg.

Both victims were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Lemon sharks are a common species in the Gulf of Mexico. They are typically not aggressive towards humans, but they will defend themselves if threatened.

Experts say that it is important to be aware of your surroundings when swimming in areas where sharks are known to be present.
