Sydney -- Nearly three billion animals mammals reptiles birds and frogs were killed or displaced by Australia's devastating bushfires.

The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) estimates that 2.5 billion animals have been killed in the fires, with mammals reptiles birds being the most affected. The fires have also destroyed or damaged 10 million hectares of habitat, leaving many animals homeless and vulnerable to starvation and predation.

The bushfires have taken a heavy toll on Australia's unique wildlife. Koalas have been particularly hard hit, with up to 30 percent of the population believed to have been killed in the fires. Other endangered species, such as the Kangaroo Island dunnart and the eastern quoll, have also been impacted by the fires.
